fire, transform me

When I was a radio student at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies, I met a group of women (womyn?) called The Feminist Spiritual Community.  I ended up making an audio portrait of the group as one of my Salt projects, which meant spending tons of time interviewing them and attending their ceremonies. As I was making this story, I was completely amazed at how the women in the FSC created a long-standing community outside of the usual familial and religious structures. They supported each other as they dealt with growing older, coming out, and all kinds of other personal and societal issues. In other words, they were totally rad.
